What is Yoga?
Yoga is a great way to strengthen and relax the body, and is all about harmonizing the body with the mind and breath, through the means of various breathing exercises, yoga poses (asanas) and meditation.
Breathing Exercises
Breathing exercises or pranayams are a central part of yoga and help calm the mind. Prana means breath or life force energy; while yama means to house or store. Thus, pranayama is the art of building up and storing our life force energy. Breathing techniques also prepare us for a deeper experience of meditation.
Yoga Poses
When you visit our Cleveland yoga studio, you’ll quickly realise that there are many different categories of Yoga poses (asanas): standing; sitting; asanas lying on the back, on the stomach and others. These affect and strengthen different parts and organs of the body.
New Dawn Yoga Cleveland is suitable for all ages and all levels (beginners to advanced). We offer various forms of yoga, including Vinyasa, which incorporates a combination of creative flowing sequences, to give a modern feel, piecing it together effortlessly. Yoga classes have different variations for you try, so you can get the most out of your asana practice. In each class, your teacher at our Cleveland yoga studio will share their knowledge of poses and their benefits (including chakras and meridians), having an important focus on the breath and also on meditation; so your body, your mind & your spirit will thank you.
Yin Yoga
This is a more leisurely paced style of yoga where each Asana (pose) is held for longer periods of time to allow the muscles and fascias to lengthen and to nurture a more calm and quiet state of mind. Find out more about what to expect from a Yin Yoga session here.
Meditation Practice
A mindfulness practice where we are training the mind to be present by allowing the awareness to be directed to the body and the breath in order to achieve a clearer and calmer state of mind, without expectation and/or judgement. Find out more about Yoga and Meditation here.
