Is Pilates for the More Mature?
Could Pilates be the Fountain of Youth?
"Anyone who is stiff and out of shape at 30 is old, while someone who is supple and strong at 60 is still young" proclaimed the inventor of Pilates himself, Joseph Pilates.
As the world-renowned Pilates instructor Romana Kryzanowska also once said, "Pilates is the fountain of youth".
Pilates helps to improve strength, balance and coordination; three components that weaken as we age.
Regularly practising Pilates can reduce the likelihood of falls and subsequent risk of bone fractures. Although Pilates is great for any age, it is extremely common for doctors and sports physios to recommend Pilates to their middle-aged (or older) clients, for overall fitness or injury rehabilitation.
Benefits of Pilates for the more Mature!
Zero impact, easy on joints – this exercise is extremely low impact, and its focus on immaculate posture helps to prevent any strains on your joints or connective tissues.
Promotes oxygen in your bloodstream – deep breathing gets more oxygen into the body, decreasing tiredness and forgetfulness so commonly associated with growing older!
Improves flexibility - creates longer, leaner muscles, and improves balance, meaning that we are less prone to injury or falls.
Improves joint issues and arthritis - by enhancing your range of movement.
Less joint stiffness – by increasing blood flow to the muscles and tendons.
Lightweight – but still a challenging workout – as Pilates doesn’t involve lifting heavy weights, it is perfect for older adults, particularly the reformers because of the light and controlled resistance.
Whole body workout – Pilates works the entire body equally for symmetry, mobility and strength.
Dawn’s Story
Our Founder Dawn has experienced first-hand the incredible benefits of Pilates, having suffered a bad back for many years.
After vising an Osteopath and learning of the wonders of Pilates, she began her Pilates journey (and has never looked back). After each session, her pain lessened, and she began to feel pain free after just a few sessions.
Dawn has never felt stronger and has continued to protect her body from injury; today she is passionate about sharing the benefits of Pilates through her Cleveland studio.
This is the power of Pilates!
