Come and try Pilates for Free!
The popularity of Pilates has exploded in recent years - and for good reason! It’s a complete mind and body workout that tests the muscles, builds strength and balance, and promotes a sense of wellbeing.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is named after its founder – Joseph Pilates.
As an orderly in WW1, Joseph devised a series of movements, drawing inspiration from sources such as yoga, martial arts and meditation. He discovered that movement early in the rehabilitation process helped patients to recover more quickly.
Fast forward to the current day, and Pilates has developed into a series of approximately 25 -50 simple repetitive low-impact exercises. These movements exert the muscles and build endurance in the abdominals, lower back, stomach, hips, glutes and joints.
Benefits of Pilates
The physical benefits of Pilates are well documented and include:
improved posture
better balance
wider joint movement
greater core strength
increased flexibility
If you’ve never tried Pilates before, we recommend you start with a mat class rather than reformer pilates.
To achieve maximum benefit, using the proper body form is necessary and our instructors are experts!
For beginners, we recommend trying a free Pilates taster class. You can choose from:
Core and Floor;
Mat Sculpt Control and Lengthen;
Mat, Barre and Bliss.
Core and Floor
This class sees you perform body-weight exercises and movements low to the ground. It is all about focus and control to build your core strength and improve your posture.
Movements may include single leg circles, double leg and spine stretches to build muscle strength in your legs, stomach, and back.
MAT SCULPT CONTROL AND LENGTHEN
This class targets specific muscle groups to activate and align them with purposeful control.
MAT, BARRE AND BLISS
It’s not ballet, though a barre is used for balance in our barre pilates sessions!
This class helps strengthen your body and build muscular endurance via low impact, high intensity movements. This is a serious workout that will make your muscles feel the burn!
High-repetition exercises hold the muscles in your legs, abdomen, glutes and arms under tension for extended periods.
The 30-minute full workout is followed by a relaxing 15-minute stretch and release to relieve tight muscles.
